Canon Point: Mid-novel, (Corroded Man), just after the confrontation at Brigmore Manor when she's posing as a Whaler.
Species: Human
Timeline of Important Events in Canon History:
1827 - Emily is born to Empress Jessamine Kaldwin and Corvo Attano.
1835 - The Rat Plague comes to Dunwall.
1836 - Corvo leaves Dunwall to find a cure for the Rat Plague on orders from the Empress. He returns in...
1837 - Empress Jessamine Kaldwin is assassinated by a group of assassins called The Whalers and their leader Daud, on orders of Hiram Burrows, the Royal Spymaster. Emily is abducted, and Burrows becomes Lord Regent.
1837, Between the Months of High Cold and Hearths: The event of Dishonored take place. For the sake of conciseness and focusing on what happens to Emily, this includes Corvo being rescued from prison with the aid of Loyalists. He rescues Emily, only to be betrayed by the Loyalists members; Emily is taken again, but Corvo exacts his revenge and finds his daughter once more, finally allowing her to take the throne without the threat of outside manipulation.
1837, the Month of Timber - Emily's coronation takes place.
1837-1851 - Emily is secretly trained by Corvo in the ways of stealth and espionage.
1851 - The events of the Corroded Man take place, up until Emily's canon point. This includes Emily (and Corvo) unearthing a strange plot by a man named Zukhov, who has put together a group of Whalers once more and has been digging up graves for unknown purposes. Her canon point ends soon after she has "infiltrated" the Whalers at Brigmore Manor.
Personality:
As a leader, what motivates Emily to make her decisions in canon is all for the sake of protecting those she cares about (her citizens, the people personally close to her). Though she is also concerned with being a good role model as Empress -- conducting herself in the public eye as an Empress should -- she is so devoted to this idea of protecting her country that she will take risks that might shatter that ideal to do so. For instance, an Empress is not supposed to go gallivanting at night on the rooftops for the sake of subterfuge training, nor is she secretly supposed to be trained by her Royal Protector. But she does so anyway, so that she may be better equipped to personally handle any problems that might come up during her rule that she cannot handle via politics alone, and may require a more personal touch.
But let us start from the beginning. When Emily was a child, she witnessed the murder of her own mother before her very eyes; as a result, she had her innocence swept out from under her at a very early age. Emily was forced to face very serious realities that most her age were ignorant to, and on top of this, she had the extra responsibility load of being a young ruler as well. Due to this, she was forced to grow up very quickly. There's a seriousness about her that carries through from this young age, and even at twenty-four/twenty-five she is much more reserved than most. She likes to tackle problems with this same way of thinking, though she isn't adverse to hearing the opinions of others to find a comparable solution to any given thing. She's direct and relatively reasonable, level-headed and considering.
But that is just the surface of Emily Kaldwin, Empress of the Isles. Dig a little deeper and you will find someone more reminiscent to her age; someone whose tendency to tackle problems head-on lend to a stubbornness when the situation becomes more complicated than initially believed. Though she will often only show this side to those who are close to her, Emily can become frustrated when her role as Empress can only take her so far -- she is the type of person who wants to take things into her own hands, and as a result, she can sometimes make impulsive decisions when only her own safety is on the line. This does not necessarily mean that she's reckless (though her impulsive nature has gotten her into difficult situations in the past), because she tempers it with a quick-thinking mind and clever improvisation. Rarely does she dive into something completely and fully without giving some small consideration to her surroundings and the situation. It's merely that she often makes up her mind that she wants to do something and will get it done. How she will do it is when Emily utilizes her common sense, and her sharp thinking will often carry her from there.
Though to say that she hasn't retained some of her qualities from her younger self wouldn't be completely true. When she was a child, she was more interested in learning about sword fighting and fantastic adventures rather than drab politics and histories of the nations. Though she doesn't indulge herself in these child-like wonderments anymore, the overall idea is still intact; there are times when Emily craves more than her life in Dunwall Tower. Emily "trains" at night when she thinks no one knows because it's an escape from her usual life as Empress, a stress-relief and a freedom that belongs to only her. Under the surface, Emily will never shy away from a bit of excitement to a certain extent. Her sense of humor is also often leashed, though it appears every so often with those she's closest to, dry and sharp-edged.
Despite all of this, none of these impulses would ever be enough for Emily to abandon her responsibilities as Empress, because nothing is as important to her as guiding and protecting her people the best she can. There may be times of frustration, but never will she consider giving anything but her all to protect what she cares about. It isn't only because it is her duty, but because she honestly cares about Dunwall, about Gristol, about the state of the entirety of the Isles. She cannot, of course, know about everything that happens in every corner of the world, nor can she even hope to control it all, even as Empress. But she hates ignorance and will do the best she can to quell it, because being aware of current issues and mounting problems is the first step in solving them. And if nothing else, Emily believes that is what she exists to do; to guide and to ease the problems of others around her, even if it means taking a few personal risks of her own.
Abilities, Magic and Supernatural Skills/Afflictions:
From her current canon point, Emily has not received any supernatural abilities.
She has, however, been trained by her father for nearly 15 years in the ways of espionage and stealth, and the way she moves reflects this. Emily knows how to move quietly, utilizing the environment around her to go past unnoticed. Her quick-thinking means that she is more observant than most, and can take advantage of perceived opportunities more aptly than most. She is fast and agile, and able to climb buildings and other structures quickly and efficiently, and without anyone noticing unless they're paying close attention.
She has also been trained in combat; this includes mostly melee weapons such as knives and swords, and her proficiency in this is just as strong as her espionage skills. Though she will never be stronger than a man twice her size, Emily is, again, fast. Her lighter frame means that she can move quicker and more deftly, and she relies on these tactics when she fights. She also has familiarity with pistols and crossbows, and can rely on pure hand-to-hand combat if need be.
Dragon & Magical Element
Elemental Alignment:
Dragon:
Emily's dragon would eventually grow to comfortably fit within the "large" category of dragons. Long and serpentine, her dragon would be male with dark iridescent purple scales that would appear mostly black unless reflected on by bright sunlight. He will move on four legs, each adorned with slender yet sharp talons. He would be a proud looking creature, with a large "crest" of smaller horns around its head, and two large, more prominent horns twisting upwards. Though large, Emily's dragon would be relatively lighter in weight than expected; to accentuate this would two leathery wings on its back, lending itself to swift and stealthy flight. He would also be able to swim, pushing itself along underwater with the help of these wings and a long, whip-like tail adorned with black spines.
He would be a ridable dragon, if need be, and its diet would consist of large animals or healthy amount of fish.

Emily's dragon was still young -- she had still not decided on a name for him yet -- but her new ward was as big as she was, longer and heavier. His diet had become larger as he grew, and Emily knew that she would have to help her dragon learn to hunt sooner rather than later. She didn't procrastinate. As soon as the thought was in her mind, she acted upon it, bringing them to the open wilderness, at the bed of a forest with high canopies and shafts of sunlight bearing down through the trees.
Of course, she wasn't much of a hunter herself; she knew how to move silently, how to use shadows and objects to one's advantage, simultaneously hiding herself and following her target without being spotted. She even knew how to perpetuate a killing blow if absolutely necessary; but all of this was when dealing with man, not animal. She knew how to anticipate how a human would think and react, not the mammalian prey they've spotted in the distance.
She crouches down low against the trunk of an old, massive tree. Her dragon watches her silently, learning to take her lead, watching her actions before moving, though he remains intertwined in the far-reaching branches of the tree above. Waiting in silence, Emily tells herself that she needs to inspire confidence in her dragon by not looking uncertain, however she may feel. She peers out from behind her cover; their prey hasn't spotted them, drawing a few steps nearer as it forages around for its own meal on the forest floor. Emily tenses only slightly, and her dragon's tail coils like a snake around a branch, as if reacting on the emotions of its scion.
Quiet breathing, quiet mind. Be aware and remember your surroundings, she thinks to herself, years of training ingrained in her mind. She envisions the animal drawing closer, just close enough for her to jump out and startle it. Perhaps then their prey would be too focused on avoiding Emily on the ground that it would not notice the dragon snaking its way above it, dropping down at the last second to provide the fatal blow.
Maybe. No point on dwelling on maybes, no point in wasting time mired in uncertainty. Emily narrows her eyes, decision made. A quick glance above at her dragon confirms that he's ready to move as soon as she does. That he knows what to do, his own stares judging the distances of neighboring trees, and what she can hope is him figuring out the easiest route to take in pursuit.
Time to move, then. No other thoughts run through the young Empress' head for now, and her body moves automatically. She jumps out from behind her hiding place with a rustle, yelling to something that their prey cannot hope to see.

Dragon & Magical Element
Elemental Alignment:
- Light - Light is symbolically appropriate for Emily because this is what she wishes to be for her people, and what she wants to bring to her Isles. She wants peace and prosperity, like any good ruler should, and in a perfect world, she would be able to make absolutely everyone around her happy. This is impossible, of course, but it is the perfect ideal that guides her to some extent.
Shadow - In contrast to the above, there is a duality in Emily that can be symbolized as Shadow. Though she wishes things were so easy, she isn't naive to think that the world operates in such simple terms. And so she takes it upon herself to investigate matters she believes are important, utilizing stealth and misdirection when she's out in the "field". It is a part of her that she hides from nearly everyone else, and I believe the very nature of her skill set lends itself to Shadow.
Fire - I believe the strength of the element of Fire fits many facets of Emily's personality. She is willful and strong, and a leader who is willing to carve out her own path to make life better for those around her. At the same time, she can be impulsive and prone to frustration, highlighting the passionate nature of the element itself.
